The Vital Data network has been designed and engineered with high availability and
up time as it's primary focus, as such we can confidently ensure service delivery
well within our customer's expectations. Our top down diverse topology removes dependency
on any given link within the network, such that there will always be an alternative
path available in the event of any problems on any segment of the network.
Connectivity
Vital has connections to multiple carrier backbones to ensure that data reaches
the end-user in the fastest, most efficient manner possible.
BGP4 Routing
Vital runs the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP4) for best case routing. Our entirely
switched, Cisco powered network employs high specification routers running HSRP
(N+1 hot failover) to ensure that data can be routed even in the event of a router
failure. The BGP4 protocol is a standard that allows for the routing of packets
of information sent out from the Vital Network. Each packet of information is evaluated
and sent over the best route possible. Because of our redundant network architecture,
packets may be sent via alternative routes even if they are being delivered to the
same end user. Should one of our providers fail, packets leaving our network are
automatically redirected through another route via a different provider.
Monitoring
Vital's network and equipment performance is monitored 24*7 in our on-site NOC staffed
by Cisco Certified Engineers utilising industry standard tools such as HP Openview,
Micromuse Netcool and Ciscoworks.
Guaranteed Packet Delivery
Vital uses direct connection to network providers to ensure that packets of information
are delivered in the most efficient manner possible. This provides many advantages
over simple peering with providers. Because of these arrangements Vital is able
to guarantee that all packets will leave our network in the most optimum way possible.
Our arrangements with our network providers and our peering arrangements mean that
Vital has sufficient capacity to cope with even the largest demand associated with
large websites.
We constantly review our network to ensure that our providers meet with our stringent
service levels and to ensure packet delivery in the most efficient way possible.
Network Providers
Our Network Providers are international and multi-national telecommunications companies
that we work closely with to expand our network reach. Peering partners are also
included within this section and currently Vital has in excess of 150 peering sessions
running. More Information
